Best time to visit

Verified regional climate, what changes in high season and real agenda events — no invented festivals or “hours of sun”.

When to go

There is no single “best month” — it depends on what you want

Summer (December–February) is the classic “lake city” season: more crowds, more nightlife and typically higher lodging prices. Autumn and spring are usually milder and quieter. Winter is drier and cooler — good for silence and walks.

San Bernardino has no own weather station in the DINAC series we used. The data below are from Asunción – International Airport (~44 km), the nearest with an official series published by INE from DINAC.

Dez–Fev
High season

More heat and crowds. Book lodging ahead.

Jun–Ago
Quieter season

Cooler nights; fewer tourists; good for remote work and rest.

~1.450 mm
Mean annual rainfall

2012–2021 average (Asunción Airport). Some years are much drier or wetter.

Month-by-month temperatures (regional reference)

Arithmetic mean of 2020 and 2021 at Asunción – International Airport. Not the 30-year climate normal (1991–2020), which DINAC mainly publishes as charts in yearbooks.

Practical tips

When to book

For Christmas, New Year, Carnival and long summer weekends, book weeks (or months) ahead. Outside high season there is usually more availability and lower prices — but always confirm with the property.

Rainy days

There are cafés, restaurants, museums and historic houses in the guide. Avoid plans that depend only on the shore if storms are forecast. Check the official DINAC forecast that day.

About the lake

MADES reiterates that Lake Ypacaraí is not suitable for bathing. The shore, viewpoints and many outings remain the main draw — plan activities without prolonged water contact.

Real agenda events

We only list what is published on the site agenda. If there are no upcoming events, we do not invent festivals.
