What it is

Migraciones publishes an official country-by-country table: who enters visa-free, for how many days, and who needs a consular visa. MERCOSUR nationals (Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Uruguay) need no visa. Germany, Austria, Spain, Portugal, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, the United States and Canada enter visa-free for up to 90 days.

Why we list it

Admission is decided by the officer at the border. If your country is not on the exemption list, the visa is applied for before travelling: it cannot be sorted out at the airport.

What it is

A valid passport or, for MERCOSUR nationals, a national identity document. Brazilians may enter with an RG issued less than 10 years ago; a driving licence is not accepted as a travel document.

Why we list it

If the document is damaged, expired or does not clearly identify the holder, the immigration authority may refuse entry. With a document close to expiry, the stay granted will be shorter.

What it is

Required for foreigners arriving from risk areas and for Paraguayans or residents travelling to such areas (MSPBS Resolution SG No. 268/2025). It applies from age 1 to 59, the dose must be given at least 10 days before travel, and the certificate is free, issued on the spot and valid for life. In Brazil the ICVP is issued by Anvisa through Gov.br.

Why we list it

It is checked at land, river and airport immigration posts. Arriving from a risk area without it can mean up to six days of sanitary monitoring.

What it is

If the minor travels alone or with only one parent, a notarised authorisation signed by the parents or legal guardians is required. Brazil uses the standard form of the National Council of Justice.

Why we list it

It is a routine border check and without it the minor is not admitted. If a parent has died, the original birth certificate and death certificate are required.

What it is

Vehicle registration papers, identity document, physical driving licence (the digital version is not accepted at the border) and valid MERCOSUR international insurance, the carta verde. If you are not the owner, a notarised, apostilled power of attorney. The Customs Code requires the regulatory paperwork for temporary vehicle admission.

Why we list it

Without the carta verde or the owner's authorisation the vehicle may be refused, and driving uninsured is an offence at road checks.

What it is

You need the International Veterinary Certificate (CVI), shown to the SENACSA inspector on entry. It requires a clinical inspection by a vet within the previous 10 days and a valid rabies vaccination for animals over 3 months; if it is the first dose, you must wait 21 days. The application is made through SENACSA Digital.

Why we list it

The check happens at the point of entry. Without the CVI the animal can be held, and the vaccination waiting periods cannot be shortened.

What it is

There is no limit on bringing money in or out, but from USD 10,000 (or the equivalent in other currencies and bearer instruments) the electronic customs traveller declaration is mandatory. Personal effects are exempt; for other goods the allowance is USD 300 by land and USD 1,000 by air or river, plus USD 500 in duty free.

Why we list it

Failing to declare, or declaring falsely, can lead to seizure of the funds and criminal penalties. Exceeding the allowance means filing a baggage declaration in the red channel.

What it is

The Central Bank of Paraguay publishes the daily reference rate of the guaraní (PYG) against the dollar and other currencies.

Why we list it

It is the benchmark for judging what exchange houses offer and for working out real costs before you travel.

What it is

The Directorate of Meteorology and Hydrology (DINAC) publishes the official forecast by city and department, including Cordillera, with 24-hour service.

Why we list it

Summers are hot with severe electrical storms that affect roads and lake activities. The official forecast beats apps working from stale data.

What it is

MOPC publishes the passability status of national routes and the updated road map. DINATRAN regulates and licenses intercity and international public passenger transport operators.

Why we list it

Useful for planning the overland leg and for checking that the bus company you booked is actually licensed.

What it is

This is the list published by the Government Portal. Saving it to your phone before you leave takes a minute and spares you the worst moment.

What it is

Immigration registration is free and only carried out at authorised control posts by accredited officers. You receive a passport stamp or an immigration slip.

Why we list it

You must present it on exit and it is a documentary requirement for any later residency application. Without proof there is a fine: the Brazilian consulate in Asunción states Gs. 618,546.

What it is

A transit stay is up to 90 calendar days, and the period actually granted appears on the stamp or slip.

Why we list it

Migraciones states explicitly that later complaints are not accepted. Checking the details on the spot is your only chance to correct an error.

What it is

Traffic and Road Safety Act No. 5016 allows driving on a valid foreign licence for a maximum of three months from your entry into the country.

Why we list it

After that you need a Paraguayan licence. Driving without a valid one is an offence and can mean the vehicle being impounded.

What it is

SENATUR runs tourist information points (Turista Róga) in Asunción, at Silvio Pettirossi International Airport and in Areguá, the closest one to the Ypacaraí lake area.

Why we list it

It is the official source for attractions, events and registered tourism providers, with no commercial middlemen.

What it is

MSPBS organises the public network into district and regional hospitals. For medical emergencies the number is 141 (SEME).

Why we list it

Worth identifying your referral facility before you need it; for minor issues, local pharmacies and private clinics are faster.

What it is

Authorisation to prolong your stay without taking up residence: up to 90 calendar days, once only, at the discretion of Migraciones. Fee Gs. 585,385, applied for online through the paraguay.gov.py portal or in person at Migraciones, with copies certified by a notary.

Why we list it

It is the only legal way to stay longer as a tourist. Overstaying without it means a fine when you leave the country.

What it is

If you are going to work, study regularly or settle, the correct status is residency, not an extension. Some nationalities that enter visa-free as tourists do need a consular visa in order to reside.

Why we list it

Working on tourist status is irregular and complicates every subsequent step, starting with the Paraguayan ID card.
