Temporary residence
Temporary residence under Law 6984/2022 may be valid for up to two years and renewable for the same period; it precedes permanent residence. The Mercosur route has separate requirements and fees.
The official list includes valid identity documents, proof of entry, birth certificate and, where applicable, civil-status records, background checks, visa and documents for minors. Foreign records may require apostille or legalisation. Follow the list for your route.
Permanent residence and solvency
From 6 July 2026, DNM Resolution 407/2026 updated evidence of solvency for permanent residence, with document categories for employees, self-employed people, professionals, digital nomads, property owners, pensioners, students and other profiles.
We do not publish an estimated total. Use the current Migration fee table, which varies by process and payment method, and separately account for translations, certifications and records.
Practical order
Keep proof of entry; identify the official route first; collect home-country records before travel; apostille or legalise where required; check validity and copy rules; pay only through official channels. After residence, check foreigner ID requirements with the National Police.
